Avesso [Inside Out] was a processual, participatory, critical intervention commissioned and presented at the Iberê Camargo Foundation, conceived and executed by artists Maurício Ianês and Andressa Cantergiani. The action served as a powerful tool to make the museum's structures, operations, workers, and visitors critically visible and present. The material discarded in the museum's daily work was collected by the artists from various garbage bins within the museum and displayed in the exhibition rooms, making it available for inspection and use by the visitors/ co-creators. This transformative approach turned the institution inside out, revealing what is often perceived as “obscene” and exposing the hidden workings of a cultural institution undergoing a crisis. During the two months of the exhibition, increasingly more rubbish was displayed and utilised by participants to create installations, sculptures, and performances that collectively formed a critical whole. The artists kindly requested participants and workers of the institution to write their names and the date of their visit on the walls, marking individual authorship of the interventions and affirming their collective effort.
