"Velar/ To Veil" was an open collective action or intervention. Ianês issued an open call to artists, regardless of their professional status, inviting anyone interested to occupy the time and space designated for the artist during the Verbo International Performance Festival at Vermelho Gallery in São Paulo, Brazil. Ianês granted complete freedom to the participants, who could use the time and space to perform individually or collectively, express their creativity in various forms, deliver speeches showcasing their perspectives on art and politics, relax, confront the audience and gallery staff, create dialogues with passers-by, or leave, among all other possibilities that could happen spontaneously. The result culminated in a cacophony of actions, speeches, and performative paintings on the gallery walls. What is particularly intriguing is that in this collective expression, individual authorship and the role of the invited artist (Ianês) were consciously erased, creating a unique dynamic. The names of each participant were announced at the start of the event. The action lasted three hours, only stopping because the gallery had to close.
