Commissioned in 2009 for an exhibition at the Lunara gallery in Porto Alegre, Brazil, ‘Inefável’ is an 8-channel video installation. Eight singers, part of the city council workers' choir, each sing the eight letters of the word ‘inefável’ (ineffable). The letters are sung in a single breath, and the singers return to silence when they run out of air. The singers sing in the note and tone most comfortable for them. On each of the eight monitors, one of the participants sings the same letter in a loop, in a blurred portrait against a black background.
