“Blockade (Window Shopper)” was conceived specifically for the tactileBosch gallery space in a shopping centre in Cardiff. Amid the region's economic decline, the commercial centre, with its many vacant spaces, is undergoing a transformation. Some of these spaces are being repurposed by artists and art projects, such as the intervention in the space's window that extended to its interior. The shop window, designed for displaying fetishised, hypnotising commodities for passers-by to consume, is gradually obscured by Ianês, who licks it with black paint, blocking the view of the inside of the former shop. At the same time, the artist and the action become the displayed commodities. The result is a painting that not only critiques the material context of the gallery and its surroundings but also engages in a profound dialogue with it, fostering a sense of connection.
